This is designed for Reading and Listening and is good for Junior High and Senior High. This is a listening activity for words that sound similar. It is a great way to practice some of the difficulties that students have with certain sounds.
Materials Needed[]
A worksheet with the words organized in a pyramid.
Contents[]
Hand out the worksheet. Explain the rules by drawing on the board an example and working through it (two levels is all that should be necessary). It may be necessary to go over the pronunciations of the different words before you start, depending upon your audience and objectives.
Once the words have been read out, go back through what you said by writing it up on the board. This gives the students another opportunity to listen and to see where they went wrong. This is better than just asking "Who got number 4?" which will embarrass those who did not get it right.
The same worksheet can be repeated several times. Change what you say and also the speed.

This has been ordered into level of difficulty, but the easier words are still appropriate for the advanced classes. The vocabulary is ordered by what is taught in the New Horizon text books.
