Cerchio (チェルチオ) is a downright excellent pizza place located in Beppu city, Oita Prefecture.
The main thing that makes the pizza so good is the fact that the owner uses a real wood-burning oven. It just has to be tasted to be believed.
Some recommended menu items are:
- Quattro Cheese (a sinful four-cheese pizza including a delictable blend of cream cheese and other cheeses)
- Canadian Bacon
- Octopus w/Anchovy Sauce (you won't believe the amount of seafood toppings piled on this pizza)
- Lunch sets, pasta, and delicious soft-serve ice cream are also available.
It's a small store, but few customers ever come, despite the unforgettable taste. Store seating for a maximum of only 10 customers is available. Take-out costs an extra 100 yen to cover the box. Delivery is also available if you're willing to pay a bit more yet. Open 11:00-21:00. Closed Tuesdays.
Hands down the greatest pizza in Oita Prefecture, and quite possibly all of Japan.
To get there, take a bus #5, 7, 2 (and others) from Beppu Station to "shitabatake" (下畑) or "haru" (原) bus stop. It's on the other side of the street from Joyfull, Geo, and Howa Bank. (The store itself is directly across from a house.) It's in the same building with a hair salon. The name of the building is "Sunrise Kawamura". The store is very small, but you'll find it if you look.
