Categories is a quick warm-up game that gets the students out of their seats and their blood flowing before the lesson begins.
Materials required[]
- None.
Procedure[]
- Most classes will sit in rows, which is perfect for making teams. Split the board into columns, one for each row of students.
- Write 1-10 in each column. The students must race one-by-one to the board and write a word for a given category given by the teacher (eg: animals, school subjects, food etc). The first team to complete 10 words is the winner.
- If they are good students you can forbid not only repeats of words in their own column, but in the other teams' too.
